GM DATABOX: Two-way radio without buttons that speaks to tech
This is a GM station in a configuration with no controls: no display, no hand microphone, no volume control. Only the case, power supply connector 12 V, antenna and data interface. The power is adjusted within 1–25 W, range 136–174 MHz, supported by SEL5.
Why do you need a station you can’t talk to?
Because you don't have to say it. DATABOX is put where the radio channel is not voices, but data: readings of flow meters and level meters, the state of the pumps, signals of security plumes, telemetry from remote objects without wires and without a cellular network. If there is no operator, then the controls only interfere - their absence excludes accidental restructuring.
Where it is cheaper than wires and cellular communication
Water intakes, boiler rooms and substations outside settlements, bulk overpasses, quarry pumps. Where it is expensive to pull the cable, and the cellular network is either absent or its break is unacceptable. Your own radio channel does not depend on another operator and its tariffs.
What to consider in the project
Adjustable power of 1-25 W is needed so as not to "overlight" neighboring objects: on the short shoulder, set a minimum - less interference and less heating. power supply 12 V calculate with reserve and with protection from a pole, raise the antenna as high as possible: in telemetry, the height of the suspension gives more than watts.
Voice part of the system
If the object needs a voice in addition to the data, these are separate stations in the same range. GM160 for duty transport or GM360 Control room.
Station pickup
Here everything is decided by the station model: connectors, mounts and landing dimensions in the series are different, and the detail from the neighboring series will not stand up.
