GM340 UHF: where 403-470 MHz perform better than long wavelengths

Same station. Professional Series, but in range 403–470 MHz. Six channels, 25 W, LED indication, body with protection IP54. The difference is in the physics of wave propagation, and it decides which version to take.

When UHF is mandatory

Warehouse complexes, shopping centers, production buildings, underground parking lots, a construction site with floors - wherever the signal does not go in a straight line, but is reflected from walls and floors. A short wave penetrates into the doorways and stairwells, a long one goes out. In open water and in the field, it is the opposite. VHF version 136–174 MHz.

Antenna solves more than power

On UHF, cable losses are noticeably higher than on VHF, so a long thin cable eats up power faster than it seems. Put the antenna on the center of the metal roof – it works as a counterweight, and a short quarter-wave antenna on a good “ground” will give more than a long one on the edge of the body. The connector after installation must be sealed.

Compatibility with the rest of the fleet

UHF and VHF don’t talk to each other – they’re different ranges, not settings. If some of the cars are already on VHF, you need to buy more VHF, otherwise you will have to build a connection through repeater. Accessories - hand microphone, microphones, cables, mounts - both versions are common, only the antenna differs.

Transition to digital
